Trip to the US - recommendations

Chaps, I'm off to the US today for three weeks, and the only shaving related thing I have planned is a visit to Pasteurs.

Staying in New York, LA, Vegas, San Diego and Anaheim. Wondering if anyone has some recommendations for places to visit. Sites like The Stray Whisker and Maggards have made the shaving world a lot smaller anyway, so I would mainly be after some hidden gems not readily available here.

Seasons greetings to you all!

Can't help you with anyway but NYC and Pasteurs Pharmacy is a MUST! There are a couple of locations - 53 E 34th St, New York, NY 10016, USA is the best (and midtown, close to Empire State Building).

I'd be looking for classic aftershaves you cannot get in Australia (easily). If you like Pinaud Clubman (or Special Reserve) grab some or the Lilac Vegetal if you are brave. I got my first Chubby 1 from Pasteur as they have them in stock and you can look and feel them. My visits were 2010 and 2011 though - the world is a smaller place now ...

You into straights mate?
If so, there are places you might drop into for straights, stones, hones, strops, etc., that you won't find here. Australia is still a barren land when it comes to the finer point of wet shaving (see what I did there, I...oh no matter  )

Online vendors Handlebar Supply, West Coast Shaving, Bull Goose and Royal Shave are located in the LA area - some but not all have actual stores. Several are having year end sales. Shipping to your hotel is option and on-line order. I have heard many good things about Pasteurs Pharmacy in NYC. Many Men's clothing stores now carry shaving products

Rockwell 6s and ATT razors available in the above shops. Numerous US artisan shaving soaps - some only available directly. US made creams include Jack Black, Nancy Boy, Baxter, etc. Benjamin Franklin used Caswell-Massey shave cream back in 1776 - still does not lather the best but excellent other products (after shave balm for example). Marlin + Goetz has excellent products and known for allergy free. Duffy makes beer shampoo.

Need anything for or to deal with the in-laws - > Good Kentucky bourbon

Honestly I'd be looking for the bourbon more than anything shave related.

For the shaving stuff, try and grab as many splashes that we cannot get here as you humanly can. Florida Water is one example I can think of that we seem to have missed so far. The rest is otherwise fairly available, I'd be looking at things that have high postage costs to AU in order to make it worthwhile.

Hmmm, without wanting to hijack @3pass's thread ...

I just realised that I'M going to be in the US in Feb, Orlando and Washington, so keep those suggestions coming folks? Maybe online suppliers who will deliver to my hotel in Washington?

I'd go for all the specialised alcoholic aftershaves that I can't get here...

As for locations, aside from what's already been mentioned...

Old Town Shaving
120 S Raymond ave
Pasadena CA
www.oldtownshaving.com
> a huge range of high end and boutique shaving products (one of the greatest in the US I believe)

Philadelphia
Pickwick Pharmacy

CHICAGO
Merz Apothecary

MICHIGAN
Maggard Razors
Adrian, Michigan

KENTUCKY
Derby City Chop Shop
1233 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40204

> Someone mentioned Kentucky Bourbon? Well this barbershop makes a "Bay Bourbon" called Small Batch Aftershave and sell it via their store. Ask @SydBJW about it... [emoji6]

If you are anywhere near Kentucky get to that shop and buy their aftershave tonic. It is amazing stuff :)
