Wolfman WR2 1.45 – WRH1 Ti Handle (Canada)
To my way of thinking, the Wolfman WR2 razor is by far and away, the best razor ever produced. This will probably be the last WR2 that I ever buy so I went all out with a 1.45 WR2 stainless steel head, Titanium WRH1 handle and the whole package premium polished. I’m not convinced that Wolfman thought this combination a good idea because on two occasions I was advise that because I had chosen two different metals, stainless steel and titanium there could be a tone difference between the two metals, I accepted their advice and requested them to proceeded with the order. Of late I’ve been very critical of handles being too heavy for the lightweight heads. A stainless steel WR2 head is super light and deserves a titanium handle, lets proceed.
It may have been the stars in my eyes that distracted my judgement, but I cannot detect a tone variation between the stainless steel and titanium sections of the razor. Fitting the titanium WRH1 handle achieved its desire result; balance was as good as you’re ever likely to achieve using a metal handle, far better than is available with Wolfman hollowed handles and I considered them good. Blade alignment in WR2 razors is taken care of by projections on the corners of the plate that fit precisely through the notches in corners of the blade. Full width blade clamping is provided so you can be assured that the blade has no opportunity to move. How can I not finish a description of a premium finished Wolfman razor without prejudice, of course it’s the best there is.
It has me fascinated that I have enjoyed every shave that I have ever had with a WR2 and I have used all available plates from 0.95 through to the 1.35 plate; now I can happily add the 1.45 plate to the list. Initially that wasn’t going to be the case; I was using a variant of my all-time favourite WR2 razor, I had a normally reliable, new Gillette 7 O’Clock yellow blade, and I was getting some weird and not so wonderful results. To be nice, the two shaves I had with that set up were horrible. It was not till I switched to the Minora that I realised that the 7 O’Clock Yellow blade I had been using was a dud; I don’t understand why I didn’t realise earlier. Now the WR2 was able to deliver the results I was expecting, Karve CB Level #D efficiency, a pleasant amount of positive blade, a smooth and comfortable shave. This is living, an exceptional razor.
