Who replates razors in Australia?

Nobody advertises this service as far as I'm aware in Australia.

Somebody got plating of a razor done at a Marrickville (?) chrome plating works from memory and I *think* somebody has spoken about some jewelers doing it.

You have Auckland Razor Company across the ditch and Razor Emporium, Back Roads Gold, RazorPlate and others in the USA as options.

Whoever you use I would contact them first before sending a razor!

And can be trusted?
If your a hands on person this company sells all the gear.
Cheers.

Silver gleam used to consider it and has done a few members razors historically, yet they closed shop.
Demon Performance Coatings trialed cerakote on a few of my razors, yet I did not see their return due to issues both sides of the fence (strange for an ex copper).
Had a place copper cost a zalmac metal modern razor in the shire.
Apparently was a pita for them.
So ask metal coaters in your area if they will consider it.
The more intricate the razor is, particularly assembly and disassembly, the less likely they will be to take it on.

It doesn't sound like anyone has actually used Auckland Razor. The owner is Dave Glynn, who previously operated in the UK as Restored Razors with plenty of happy customers before emigrating to NZ. Their prices seem high but tolerable for a basic nickel replate and the couple of examples look good. I would love to see a few more examples of adjustables. I have a Gillette Slim picked up in a junk market in Vietnam that has sentimental value and shaves extremely well and is a prime candidate for replating.

Does anyone have any first-hand feedback on Auckland Razor Company?

And on the topic, what does anyone think about the possibility of replating the head of a Schick Krona which is seemingly bonded to a plastic handle? They are cheap enough that I could possibly buy a cheap one to roll the dice.

Thanks Les. My assumption from the note on the BRG page is that they're having trouble with tariffs being incurred on both the import and export. Add on postage and the price is pretty close. If the price is close I think I will probably send it on the shorter trip.

Were you happy with the Fatboy? How has it held up?

I have had the 4 razors re-plated solely to give to my Grandchildren on my demise, so they all look as good as the day I received them back. Sorry not much help there.
At the time I only went with BRG as approx $90-100 cheaper at the time, plus numerous positive reviews re BRG 👍

I've dealt with Dave once or twice, not for replating, but he was great to deal with.

Thanks for the feedback. Looking like a winner.

Appreciate the feedback. That's a great gift for the grandkids hopefully long into the future. Thoughtful to leave them something they can use in their day to day. I always think of my grandfather when I use Tabac as it was a bit of a feature scent. It's nice to have those generational memories.
