Your MVP's of 2014

Lifes a Peach

...or a mango. But definitely a fruit.
2016 Sabbatical
Charity Auction Team
I'm interested to hear about your Most Valued Product's that you purchased in 2014. This year through up a few gems for me. My list does not necessarily represent my favourite players - it's about what acquisitions made in 2014 that won us over.

Brush: L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic - Deadset easy to get a decent lather; low maintenance; $US30 makes it bargain of the year.

Razor:
Gillette NEW OC (Short Comb) - Over 80 years young and doesn't need Viagra to perform; very attractive razor; BBS close, with just 2 passes, and smooth.

Blade:
n/a - Did not find a blade that performs for me in all razors like the Personna Med Prep.

Soap/Cream:
Barrister & Mann - Top notch ingredient list; rich, slick and moist lather; smells divine.

Aftershave:
Myrsol Blue - Clean scent that compliments ANY lather; great post-shave qualities leaving my skin feeling great; attractive bottle.

What are yours?

Brush: Thater 49125 (from @Nightguard ) and Erskine butterscotch TGN finest reknot (from @Mark1966 ) - both for very different reasons and very different functions

Razor:
Weber PH - there's nothing else like it!

Blade:
A tie between Personna Blues and Permasharp Supers.

Soap/Cream:
Too many to list - but for the sake of this thread, for:
  • performance - Jabonman,
  • scent - Johnny Goodsir, and
  • both - Occams (or Jabonman….this stuff is proving pretty darn good already…after one shave)

Aftershave:
Myrsol! Take your pick which. I could just have this brand. …oh or Speick AS lotion if I can't manage the import.

Some fine products there Stillsy. I was torn between the Weber and Gillette NEW. The NEW took out the title for me only because we clicked straight away.

My NEW (UK LC) is with @Mong. Loved it for every other day shaving, but when I moved to daily I found the Weber better suited for my face.
Still love a good open comb - like the Fatip and R41 (let's just call it an OC for the sake of argument OK!) - when there's some serious hair on there.

Gee whiz a year is a long time to remember. I'll give it a go though:

Brush: Unless my TGN finest @Pjotr re-knotted distressed Culmak arrived this year there is nothing of note here that has made the cut - although another one is till incoming.

Razor:
Polished Head Weber with Bulldog Handle. Simple one here as I've not tried any other new razors! My Barbasol could be a late contender though

Blade:
The 'French' Wilkinsons - a great 'new' find

Soap/Cream: Occams - I had Mike's last year and the MdC and Jabonman have yet to be tried so this is an eaasy call too!

Aftershave:
The Myrsol Aqua Balsamica pips the Floid for me and I think they are the only new ones I've tried

nice idea for a thread @Lifes a Peach !!!!

Great idea @Lifes a Peach -

Brush: Plisson synthetic from L'Occitane. This one came storming through at the end...

Razor:
Standard Razor (Black). Easy winner, although I just received a Polished Head Weber with Bulldog Handle. But that'll be for next year...

Blade:
Personna Supers/'Lab Blues' (modern) and Gillette Bleue Extras (vintage).

Soap/Cream: Occams and Jabonman are my co-winners this year.

Aftershave:
Myrsol. (If I had to choose, it'd be: Agua Balsamica, Antesol and Emulsion. Some close behind though!) Jabonman aftershave balm is spectacular, but I haven't used it enough yet.

What's your favourite Barrister & Mann soap/scent @Lifes a Peach ?

I think Arko wins this prize for me.

It made me value all my other products so much more, so in terms of value add, it wins.
Is A%k* the answer to everything?

Only have one, Filo - Aromatique, which is a fougere scent.
Will appears to be a masterful soap maker with a skill for scents. [emoji106]
I recently got a few samples which I look forward to trying.

Well for me:
Razor - RR Stealth slant V1 (closely followed by ATT R1)
Brush: Vie-Long 12705B
Blade: don't know if I started this year with them but in an case: Voskhod
Soap: A tie between Mikes & Stirling

Persona 74s. Only tried one and it was good for me.

The only other purchase I made was alcolado glacial a/s and I've not been too fussed with that so far.

Brush: Vulfix 2233, really surprised at how well this under appreciated little brush does, great with soaps and creams, bowl or face. It just works.

Razor: Pre War Tech, I tried one when I started DE shaving and quickly decided it wasn't for me. 3 years later and I found one at a local vintage market. Loaded with an English Wilky and it's now one of my go to razors.

Soap/Cream: Wickham Soap.

Aftershave: Aqua Velva. Cheap, mentholated, pleasant scent, great face feel. How else could it be better?

Brush: Vulfix #374 Super Badger - My first MassDrop purchase and it has not disappointed. Quality of the hair is far in excess of anything else I have tried so far, and no shedding at all. Handle is a bit light and could be better constructed but for the price I paid - amazing value.

Razor:
n/a - Didn't purchase one this year - not even a vintage. Quite happy with my Fatboy & Slim most of the time.

Blade:
Le Francais Wilkinson, c.1977 - Bought up an entire stash to share with @Mark1966 and push a few more around the members here. Not the best blade, but definitely the best all-rounder. Honourable mentions to my cheap White Platinums which I got for a song, and the early Gillette Platinums, UK Made. They push a P74 in a comparison in all ways except longevity.

Soap/Cream:
Simpsons Lavender & Vetiver Cream - A freebie from @Mark Watterson for which I am very thankful. Probably half my shaves this year were lathered by this stuff, and performance & scent are amazingly good. Rotated back to Proraso in the warmer weather but the Simpsons is great stuff at a reasonable price when sourced via MensBiz.

Aftershave:
n/a - Didn't purchase one this year.

Let me see:

Brushes: Couple of handles from @Mark1966 , a distressed butterscotch re-knotted with TGN Finest and an Ever Ready reknotted with an Omega boar.
Blades: a P74 which was pretty impressive and a batch of 200 vintage English Wilkies.
Cream: TOBS Jermyn Street.
