Newbie hello

Welcome mate!

So what gear did you get?

Feel free to ask LOTS of questions :)

Welcome to P&C @markxbeesley (from now on its MxB!)

Tim as Silvergleam does a good job. There's a post on here about his services. I've used him to replate a few razors and another here had him replate a FatBoy. (I can't recall if the person took apart their own FB and had Tim replate the pieces or that Tim stripped it down...) He's in Sydney. Cost is about $70-100 fir Rhodium I think.

Another option is for a clean and shine from resident FatBoy specialist @FatBoy58
For a small fee and postage he'll make it top notch. You could also talk with him about replating. He may be able to work with someone to have it replated, and then FB58 will re-paint numbers and make that baby shine until your eyes bleed... Just sayin'... [emoji6]

Welcome @markxbeesley - I am sure you will have a great time here!

Please tell us a bit more about the rest of your setup!

As for the FatBoy - I would also highly recommend you talk to our resident specialist @FatBoy58 first - his username says it all.

And another thing to remember: the finish usually does not alter the quality of the shave. While you are undoubtedly excited about your first vintage razor, if it works, I personally would shave with it for some time first and see how you like it, before spending money on replating it...

Good advice

Great setup there - but if I may suggest: try to get a different brush. Those boars often have clipped hair, which means they will never break in and soften up...most likely it won't come to that anyway, because the knot will probably fall out of the handle :(

I don't know where you are based, but a decent Omega boar brush can be had locally in many places in Australia and costs less than 20 bucks.
