I have been using disposable cartridges for the last 15 years! Looking to make the switch. I guess there is something romantic about an old fashioned blade.Welcome to Paste & Cut, @James McFarlane . Great to have a fellow Melbournite join our shaving community.
Are you just starting out with wet shaving or have some experience and now progressing to straight razors? We have some very experienced straight shavers at Paste & Cut who are more than happy to help you on your way. Lot's of knowledge and opinions on soaps, brushes and other shave related stuff.

Thanks. Havnt dived in yet. The general consensus seems to be to buy something on the cheap side to get started whilst i am still finding me feet etc. I was browsing whippeddog.com but it also sounds like there are some contacts on this board who may be able to help get me started.Welcome aboard mate. Bought that first straight yet? If so, what you armed with?

I actually purchased a straight off Mark this morning. He is definitely highly recommended on hereWelcome aboard, @J.Mac .
You will certainly find a wealth of information on this site.
I did the same as you about a year or so ago - straight to the straight. It has taken about a year for me to really refine things properly. I can now shave with either hand, and cuts are kept to a minimum.
As @borked has said, talk to @Mark about all things straight, from possibly buying, to getting the blade to a shave-ready edge.
Any questions, feel most free to ask.
For good reason. He hones straights for businesses that sell straight razors and has guys from around the world send him razors to hone. Some blokes won't trust their collection of straights to no one else!I actually purchased a straight off Mark this morning. He is definitely highly recommended on here
