Welcome to Paste & Cut, @James McFarlane . Great to have a fellow Melbournite join our shaving community.

Are you just starting out with wet shaving or have some experience and now progressing to straight razors? We have some very experienced straight shavers at Paste & Cut who are more than happy to help you on your way. Lot's of knowledge and opinions on soaps, brushes and other shave related stuff.

Great to have you on board (y)

Welcome mate!

Strictly DE for me so no help to you at all I'm afraid.

Some knowledgeable blokes around though so stick around and enjoy the fun!

Welcome aboard mate. Bought that first straight yet? If so, what you armed with?

I have been using disposable cartridges for the last 15 years! Looking to make the switch. I guess there is something romantic about an old fashioned blade.

Good for you mate. Plenty of guys around here that you can lean on for advice. Best of luck with it.

Thanks. Havnt dived in yet. The general consensus seems to be to buy something on the cheap side to get started whilst i am still finding me feet etc. I was browsing whippeddog.com but it also sounds like there are some contacts on this board who may be able to help get me started.

@Mark would be our resident expert in this case. I'll see what we can arrange for you.

the guy above this post will be whom most recommend when it comes to obtaining a straight razor in Australia from.
He knows his stuff, dreams of the perfect honed razor and has more straights than one man ever should!

G'day @James McFarlane welcome to P&C Wet Shaving Australian Fan Club and so you're a straight razor lover, that's okay their are plenty of straight razor fans here in P&C to help you and to advise you any question you need on straight razors. @James McFarlane don't forget to checkout @Anthony Aussie made shaving soap called 'Shaver Heavens' and please support our locals at http://shaverheaven.com.au/

You will love @Anthony Aussie made shaving soaps and this will save you heaps of money in the long term future than oversea shaving soaps, so please help yourself and support our Aussie locals.

Cheers ;)

Welcome abroad @James McFarlane - unfortunately I am also not in a position to help with straights - but there is a ton of knowledge and some of the friendliest enablers around - so you definitely came to the right place!

Welcome aboard, @J.Mac .

You will certainly find a wealth of information on this site.
I did the same as you about a year or so ago - straight to the straight. It has taken about a year for me to really refine things properly. I can now shave with either hand, and cuts are kept to a minimum.

As @borked has said, talk to @Mark about all things straight, from possibly buying, to getting the blade to a shave-ready edge.

Any questions, feel most free to ask.

I actually purchased a straight off Mark this morning. He is definitely highly recommended on here

Hey @J.Mac and welcome!

For good reason. He hones straights for businesses that sell straight razors and has guys from around the world send him razors to hone. Some blokes won't trust their collection of straights to no one else!

He's honest and fair. Knows his steels and his stones. He always has excellent prices for his straights. He'll hone or teach you to hone.

Yes, there's lots of good reasons we all recommend @Mark

Enjoy your razor!
(Why not write a thread sharing your "journey" of starting to use a straight razor?)
