Shave of the day 2013

A few? Are you kidding me? That's like Mark saying he's shaving with a Gillette razor from his miserable little collection.

Yeah, I don't see the GBE's as vintage yet. I haven't cracked open any more packs of anything as yet either, so it feels like I am not going through that many of them.

I think I did use a GBE in there somewhere too.

ARKO!
Frankshave Silvertip
Merkur 34C
Gillette 7 o'clock Black
Alum
Proraso splash

Tried the Gilette Black from the travelling blade PiF. It's got a couple on it now. Really nice blade. I much prefer it to the yellow o'clock which I found too rough. Will see how it holds up acros the next few shaves.

The FS Silvertip...I'm really enjoying this brush again for some reason. It's just like a big puffy cloud on your face but lathers up great with all my stick soaps. If you're broke and don't give a rats arse about backbone you are getting a luxury shave at a basement price. Brush burn is a thing of the past with this puppy!

Big fan of the Gillette Black blades. I'm yet to try one in the R41 - might do that next shave.

Getting quiet in here gents!

Gillette 1940's style SS
Gillette Platinum Blue
Arko
Tweezerman brush
Speick balm

Great razor/blade combo. Very hard to fault the 1940s style SS- not exactly a hefty razor but just seems to be very well balanced and get the job done.

I fear I'm getting a bit complacent though. It's far too easy to stick with my Arko/Tweezerman/Speick combo as I just get good, dependable results. I really need to shake things up a bit and try some new soaps/creams and aftershaves.

So I tried a Gillette Black Plat in the R41 and cut myself. Admittedly I was rushing the shave.

So today after healing from the last shave:

Semogue Badger
T&H West Indian Limes Cream (from Mark iirc)
Merkur Progress on 4
Oriental Spice AS (again from Mark I think)
A good shave and the AS wore well throughout the day.

Mainly Macca Root cream with the odd ARKO!/Tabac/Irish Moos session thrown in.
Shick on No 9 (still as smooth as the day it emerged) with a short Personna Red (pretty average 3 shaves) interlude.
Good ol' 7O'clock bakelite razor. Why oh why isn't anybody else using these things! Cheap to get hold of and the ultimate shaving machines.

Well i tried something different today.

Three piece design razor with the open claws (PIF'd from JugV2)
Gillette Platinum blade (PIF'd from JugV2)
DR Harris marlborough cream
Nivea after shave balm

Probably my best shave yet, i did a 2nd WTG on the neck but i don't think I needed it. This razor feels smaller and more controllable than the butterfly one i have been using. The Gillette blade seemed to cut better that the Astra's. I find i don't need to go XTG anymore, WTG at the right angle works really well with no irritation. I'm starting to get a good idea how my beard grows :)

Happy Day's

Although I can understand the reference to claws, as they do look pretty scary, it is actually an open comb (OC) razor you're referring to (I assume). Well done nonetheless. I use OCs with trepidation and invariably cut myself somewhere.

Yes I sent one tto and one open comb. In my experience you can throw a tto around your face unless using a feather but you have to be careful with an open comb. It's all about the angle.

Just had a coupla shaves with a Polsilver Super Iridium. Very sexy name for a very average blade. Chucked it after two. Did the first one with an OC and blamed the OC (as you do...they are after all very good at removing moles and bunions) and second one with a trusted razor with the same result. I should follow this with a gentlemanly "in my humble opinion' statement. But I'm not.

Have been using a Bostonian all week with a spoiler.

Has given me some lovely shaves, it's still no 34C but its damn good.

And as I keep saying, the spoilers are literally just too good!!!

I got a bunch from Drubstep last week, I'm gonna try one tomorrow morning and prove you wrong.

Oh another one who can't use an open comb...

pffft!

Just haven't found any particular attribute that makes it a superior design to a closed comb. The one PJ hit me up with seems to clog faster than any of my other razors and doesn't appear to shave closer/faster/smoother.

Also you have used a mach III more recently than I so you don't get to make jokes at my expense

hahahahaha fair call about the mach 3.

Do you want to have a try of my R41?

It's my favourite razor so strictly a trial not a PIF, but you are welcome to have a go if you like.
