Shave of the Day - 2025

JtdQXC1.jpeg

Gillette Rocket Flare Tip with a Dorco ST-301, Razorock Plissoft, Noble Otter Bare, Nivea Senstive Balm.

As I’m still starting out, this is the setup I’m going to stay with until I figure out that irritation free shave. My other bits and pieces are tucked away in the top of my wardrobe, out of sight out of mind hopefully!

TUESDAY SHAVE

SOTD.jpg

Had an awesome two pass BBS shave with this amazing gear today. The Razor was a fantastic Zamak offering which was smooth as silk, the blade sharp enough and very forgiving. The Israeli iconic shaving cream was the surpise package as it provided amazing cushion and glide. The Shavologist extraction was on par with some of the best popular brands I have used and soothing for the skin. The Brush had some scritch for sure but is a non shedder which worked well to generate a rich lather, love the handle too. All this for just for 26.60 AUD which is approximately 17 USD.

Safety Razor - Ricardo Open Comb by Roamer-7 (India) - 5.50 AUD
Blade - Gillette Wilkinson Sword Saloon Pack (India) - 0.10 AUD
Shaving Cream - MEM (Israel) - 4.00 AUD
Brush - Shaving Shack - The Guvnor 23mm Best Badger (United Kingdom) - 8 AUD
Post Shave - EXTRACTION Eau De Cologne by Shavologist (India) - 9 AUD
That's amazing @Bladerunner7 and to think some wet shavers spend hundreds even over a thousand on shavers and related products.
I know I myself have spent hundreds on DE razors.
I totally see the point your stating about how cheaply you can bundle together a shaving set up and still get a good shave.
Good on you mate great original idea.
🍻

Good move @ColorMug stick with the one razor till you feel comfortable.
(I am only referring to double and single edge razors as I have no experience with straight razors)
(But I am sure some of this advice applies to them as well.)
That way you can experiment with holding the razor the way that suits you.
Try out different angles with the razor on the flat part of your cheek (raising your hand up and down ) to change the angle with each pass.
You will find a spot that your razor shaves the most efficiently.
Also there is not a single person who has not cut or nicked themselves when shaving especially when your new to it.
Once you are comfortable with the razor (even if it takes you several shaves) just stick at it then maybe try another razor.
They all have their own differences and traits.
If you find you are still not happy with the resulting shave and your happy you have the right razor to face angle.
It can be as easy as changing to a different blade (not all blade are of equal quality and sharpness).
Some blades work better in one razor and not as good in another.

My main point is in my opinion is you are better to stick with one razor till you are happy with your technique and
in time you will do it naturally with only very slight changes in technique when you move on to other razors.
Its a very common mistake among new and even experienced shavers to chop and change to soon between razors.
Sometimes wasting an awful lot of money trying to find the perfect razor.
A lot of times never dialling in the razor they are using before changing to another (this takes more than a few shaves most times).
What is best for one person is not always best for another .
I totally respect the opinion of each person on the razor they are using but at the end of the day we are all different.
Happy shaving mate.
Cheers.

1st shave with the Spirit SE, handling, feel, moveability etc, I prefer over the Hawk V3 and Vector (to date) but not the Shield Evolution. The Super blade was not as good in this as I thought it would be, I’ll be using a Proshave S tomorrow. I like the Eufros soap as I only Face Lather I’m still have trouble “’getting’’ it how I like, I believe it’s quite thirsty, mmh!! Eufros Balm is wonderful, I don’t use a moisturiser post this.
