Shave of the Day - 2025

Weekly Shave

Arlington is definitely my favourite D.R Harris scent.
Delightful shaves from this setup. Another palm strop of the Gem blade and see if I can get another week out of it.

The Osprey ranks in my top 5 razors. I use a 7 O’Clock Green Superstainless or a Wilkinson Sword in it somewhere between 5 and 6 as the mood takes me. Delightfully consistent Shave.

Last weekend I spent some time cleaning up and honing a Gold Dollar 66 provided by @LesC to PIF. The PIF can be found here. I took the razor's honing up to an unknown 10k Jsynth and stopped there so that the PIF winner had an option on his preferred finish.

This morning I was pondering which razor to shave with - the most stressful part of my day. Then I remember the "unfinished GD66. I had been many years since I had shaved with a razor directly off my synthetic whetstones so I thought I would give this GD66 a tryout. I stropped the razor on clean leather and prepared as normal but wasn't expecting much of a shave as I am very use to natural or diamond pasted balsa finishes on my blades' edges.

I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The blade's edge is not up to my normal shave-ready standard but it did the job and did it reasonably well. The fool's pass did not leave my upper lip BBS nor even DFS but there it was a CCS finish. The rest of the three-pass shave was a DFS+ finish (meaning mostly DFS with some areas of BBS).

This GD66 has now been again stropped on clean leather, treated with Renaissance wax and put away for the lucking PIF winner. For the shaving soap this week, I am using the citrus with floral undertones ARKO stick out of my travel kit.

Koraat Sheffield 15/16 Half Hollow - C&H Elm 2-Band Finest - Extro Bergamotto di Calabria - Myrsol Agua de Limón - Sukin Moisturiser

The Extro soap is great. Scent is well balanced, with complex citrus and then deeper florals when you lather. Residual slickness is good. Lovely shave! :)
