Shave of the Day - 2025

SOTD – Wed.22.Jan,2025

Shave Report: The WashPool soap puck is firm but pliable soap so easy to slice of a small portion (I used about 1.3gm but could easily use less) which produced a creamy medium density lather with the cashmere brush. The lather is a great overall performer and has a nice post shave skin feel (the lanolin content probably helps here). The lather has no scent to speak of, just smells like a tallow bar soap. An easy going DFS from the Yaqi Romulus, quite a mild razor for me.

The Gear:

  • Pre Shave: Proraso Green Pre-Barba with Eucalyptus & Menthol
  • Brush: Fuko Shaving “Triffid” with 26/58 Cashmere knot [A]
  • Soap: Washpool Supply Co. - #03, Un-scented [A]
  • Bowl: Whispers From The Woods [A]
  • Razor: Yaqi SS Romulus AC SE head with Rainbow Handle
  • Blade: Kai Captain Titan Mild AC (4)
  • Astringent: Jennai Aloe Vera Gel with Witch Hazel & Vitamin E [A]
  • Balm: G&M Australian Creams - Eucalyptus Oil, with Camphor oil & Menthol (From Big W) [A]
  • After Shave Splash: Malizia UOMO Vetyver AS Lotion
  • Moisturiser: MooGoo Natural Full Cream - Hydrate [A]
[A] = Australian Product

Washpool is IMHO as I’ve said on other posts, up there if not better than MWF and Schafmilch a top (unscented) Aussie product at a better price. Their No2 is my preferred rotational soap.

Friday Evening 24/01
  • Razor : Gillette Aristocrat 1946 (first version of this model)
  • Blade : Gillette Nacet (1).
  • Brush : B&B Synthetic Chubby.
  • Soap : Catie's Bubbles (Le Marche Du Rasage).
  • Balm/Toner : TN Dickinson's Witch Hazel.
  • Weight : 66 grams.
Hi all,
A good shave tonight with the Gillette Aristocrat I won't say its the best shave from a Gillette TTO.
In my opinion they still had a way to go in this area if your into Gillette's its shave similar to a regular
40s to 50s Super Speed (mildish).
So with this in mind I loaded it with a Nacet blade @SpeedyPC ranks it at number 3 and yes its very sharp.
One pass WTG and ATG and a bit of a touch up Done.
I had a bit of skin irritation after I think this was because its a milder razor with a very sharp blade and trying
to get smoother close shave (trying a bit to hard).
The Witch Hazel fixed me up in no time.
the Catie's Bubbles soap was good and the scent is very nice (recommended to me by @Bladerunner7).
Only thing was the lather didn't last long on my face.
All in all another descent shave.

Cheers.

Great to see your opinion on the shave and the various ingredients @Vittoria A photo and a list of all the fancy stuff means very little to me if I don’t end up knowing how it all came together. Well done
