Shave of the Day - 2025

Friday afternoon "Valentine's Day" 14/2/25
  • Hot shower
  • Razor : Blacklands Blackbird SS Satin finish.
  • Blade : Gillette Nacet (1)
  • Brush : Yaqi caramel cats whiskers synthetic.
  • Soap : Chiselled Face Cryogen Ultra Menthol.
  • Aftershave : Ralph Lauren Polo Blue.
  • Weight : 94 grams.
Hi all,
A fantastic shave this afternoon with the blackbird SS and it just gets better and better with each shave.
This is my fourth shave with this razor and I feel I have just about got it dialled in.
The third shave with a Wizamet on shave 3 almost had me nick myself as the blade had dulled
as I was Applying a very slight pressure to try to compensate for the dull blade.
Instead of letting the razor do the work . ( This razor almost shaves by its self it real is that good)
The Nacet is a very good blade which works well in the Blackbird SS.
Unfortunately I only have a couple left and they seam to be a bit hard to get locally.
As for the soap the menthol is a bit to over powering (the name says it all) I only had a sample of it.

After splashing of my only fancy aftershave and dressing up a bit my wife and I went out to dinner.

Cheers every one.

Pre-shave: Hot flannel, Valobra Glicerlanolina
Brush: Yaqi rainbow pony
Soap: Stirling Lavender
Razor: Wolfman WR4
Blade: Schick Proline
Post-shave: TND witch hazel, homebrew moisturiser, La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 50+ Invisible Fluid, Oxford & Cambridge cologne

Away for the weekend down in Franklin. Our accommodation, while otherwise fantastic, was marred slightly by having a postage-stamp washbasin set in a corner of a windowless bathroom. So I shaved (without recourse to a mirror) at the kitchen sink, with a wonderful view of the Huon River, along with a few naked swimmers (not featured in my pic).

Shave Report: Wickham Soap Co. 1912 - Irish Fern, vegetal soap base made in UK. Scent described as “Having the hallmark of a classic Fougere, Irish Fern evokes images of lush greens, aromatic, herbal freshness, drops of falling water in deep woods and wind blowing over fields. A masculine fragrance that is clean and invigorating, it delivers a satisfying aroma of emerald goodness.” The soap has a firm texture but it easily generated a lovely rich creamy high density lather. Lather shaving properties were excellent. Another great shave from the Hawk.

The Gear:
  • Pre Shave: Imperial Barber Glycerine Soap for Shave/Face
  • Brush: Boti “Blue-Ice” with APShave 24/52 Synthetic Faux Horse

Monday Afternoon 17/2/25

  • Razor : Gillette red tip Super speed.
  • Blade : Gillette Nacet (2).
  • Brush : Beard & Blade Chubby.
  • Soap : Catie’s Bubbles purple grapefruit.
  • Balm : TN.Dickinson’s witch hazel.
  • Razor weight : 66 grams.
Hi all,
Another great shave today with the Gillette red tip Super speed. This is my favourite of the super speed line up.
This one has the end caps missing which doesn’t affect the razor at all.
Don’t get me wrong all the Super speeds have their own merits, but this one suits me best.
As we all have our own preferences when using vintage and modern razors.
The Catie’s bubbles soap was okay. This is the second time I’ve used it.
I found it dried out too quickly again even though I put more soap in the bowl this time and hydrated it more.
I must say it’s not my favourite soap.
One pass WTG/AGT done.
No touch-ups no nicks.
Cheers.
