I had a superb shave yesterday evening with the Gillette new improved razor.
This line of razor came directly after the old type single and double ring design with its noted flaws especially the thin tube handle which almost always cracked length ways down the handle.
As you can see by the pic the Gillette new improved was the predecessor to the modern three-piece razor design that is so common in modern razors today.
In regards to the shave from this razor (in my opinion) it ranks as one of the more efficient close shaving razors that Gillette made.
In later models such as the TTO‘s and of course the Tech’s the efficiency was slowly overtime dulled down to appeal to more shaves.
Saying that with one of their adjustable line of razors you may be able to get a similar shave with the right setting and blade combination.
(Again this is my opinion only.)
The Gillette new improved goes to show there’s really nothing new under the sun considering it was launched in the 1930s
it could challenge and beat many a modern razor.
The "Goodfellas’ Smile Abysso" soap (non Tallow formula) provided great cushioning and after shave feel which is no surprise as this is one of my favourite brands of soap. If you haven’t tried them I recommend this one as a good starting point.
Finished off nicely with Layrite deluxe No9 bay rum splash.
1 pass WTG 1 pass ATG no touch ups.
Clean as a whistle.
No nicks no worries done.

SOTD – Revisiting the Classics
After a solid three-week run with the same kit, the blade finally started to show signs of fatigue—still serviceable, but not quite the same edge it once had. With that chapter closed, I decided it was time to revisit an old favorite: the vintage GEM razor.
There’s something undeniably satisfying about the weight, balance, and tactile feedback of these classic single-edge razors. Paired with some equally timeless accoutrements, the shave felt less like routine and more like ritual. There's a rhythm to it that modern gear often lacks—deliberate, grounded, and nostalgic in all the right ways.
Sometimes, stepping back into the past delivers exactly the kind of shave you didn’t know you needed.

Started loading up the piggy with soap, and the knot popped out.
Just goes to show that even epoxy sometimes lets you down, no matter how carefully you rough up the gluing surfaces. Admittedly, I had the knot set quite high in the socket, so that introduces a bit more stress on the joint. But I like it that height, so I'll just have to do it again once it's all dried out.

it's as well made as it could possibly be. I've just realised I've had this razor for almost 2 years now, and during that time, I have given almost no consideration to acquiring any other. I say "almost" because I did succumb to extreme provocation from [url="https://paste-and-cut.com/community/members/errol.1687/]@Errol[/url] () and put my name down for the WR4 0.7 a few months later, and I'm happy with that because the two complement each other beautifully. Rolls-Royce vs Ferrari.If I had to run back into a burning building, the Vestige would be the one I'd rescue.
