Shave of the Day - 2025

It’s always tough to choose a favorite from the Murphy & McNeil lineup, but Green Man Fougere is definitely up there. It has a beautifully balanced scent—fresh, green, and grounded in that classic fougère style. One of those soaps you look forward to revisiting.

The Blackland Blackbird standouts in my collection as the DEAD killer—Double Edge Acquisition Disorder came to a halt when this beauty arrived. The shave is efficient, smooth, and incredibly satisfying.

For the brush, the Maseto Himalaya 24mm Extra Density Silvertip Badger continues to impress. If you're looking to get into high-quality badger brushes without dropping premium-tier money, Maseto is one of the best values out there. Soft tips, great backbone, and consistent quality.

Eufros Week!

Roman Kamlash “Classic W&B” 10/8 Full Hollow - Zenith Manchurian - Eufros Aura de lavanda - Floïd Vigoroso - Sukin Moisturiser

Kicking off a full week of shaving with Manuel's excellent soaps; opening with his 2024 limited edition, which is a lovely lavender forward fougère (with a hint of cannabis to give it depth and some darkness). This is his newer vegetable base and it is superb. Slickness, initial and residual, is exceptional. I've yet to encounter a better soap.

Eufros Day 2

Cape 1372 13/16 Half Hollow - C&H Elm 2-Band Finest - Eufros Argos - Myrsol Agua de Limón - Sukin Moisturiser

Argos is one of Manuel's tallow soaps, but the performance is consistently superb across his line. I'm, not sure if this scent is named after the Greek city or the Spanish river, but either way it is a lovely evocation of a rural Mediterranean summer: it opens with a sharp, green rosemary top, which is beautifully balanced by lavender, laurel and a sweet citrus note that makes for an fragrant herbal accord. Magnificent!

Eufros Day 3

Pechika 55 13/16 Half Hollow - Zenith Unbleached Boar - Eufros Gea - Myrsol Antesol - Sukin Moisturiser

Gea is Manuel's sole vegan offering in his standard line, and the base is slightly better than the standard tallow. Gea is a floral bomb: a heavy hit of lavender and neroli, beautifully balanced with the sharpness of bergamot. It is an exquisite scent, and probably my favourite of all those I have tried of Manuel's creations.

Mmmm hmmm, that sounds like it might be right in my wheelhouse. For modern artisan soaps, I have come to prefer a well-made veg base over tallow, I think it allows for a cleaner scent.

Pre-shave: Hot flannel, Pears soap
Brush: TroyCraft "Polar Nocturne" 28mm AP Titanium
Soap: D.R. Harris - Windsor
Razor: Wolfman WR4
Blade: Schick Proline
Post-shave: TND witch hazel, homebrew moisturiser, Oxford & Cambridge cologne

I had put aside the Windsor for a few months, I think I must have overused it a while back, and I sort of grew tired of it. But today, with the first signs of a proper spring taking root, it was lovely. I had another melanoma cut out yesterday, so my shave was a bit hampered by a large dressing on my jaw. I'll have to put up with that for a week until the sutures come out, then I can smooth off the scar with my razors...

Eufros Day 4

Koraat 14 2.0 15/16 Bellied Full Hollow - Zenith Unbleached Boar - Eufros Iberian Shave - SMN Tobacco Toscano Lotion - Sukin Moisturiser

Iberian Shave is Manuel's 2025 limited edition, described as a citrus acquatic. The scent I get is citrus forward, but with a strong ozonic twist. There is also a hint of plangent bitterness underneath, perhaps geranium leaves, that gives the whole profile a lovely balance. Fresh, invigorating, like tacking into a stiff breeze off the Amalfi coast. Performance, of course, is stellar. Rich, creamy lather that is so slick I really don't need to relather after the first pass. I do anyway, because it smells so good!
