I have a history of preferring synthetic knots (and as I require LOTS of lather, they're totally unbeatable with a hard milled soap), but I'm beginning to wonder if the combo of boar/badger might be better than the sum of its parts when it comes to natural fibres. AP makes superb knots, so I'm now mulling over a new commission for Troy. I'm sure he won't mind...Pre-shave; Warm shower, face rinse with MWF bar soap.
Brush; AP Shave Co, Etched Series ‘’Sea Voyager’’, Red resin handle and a 24mm AP Luxury bulb knot of mixed hair, 70% 2 band Finest Badger & 30% Pure Boar. Looks great with the Old Spice set!!
Soap; Old Spice, soap puck 3.75oz (1965-75) in a late 02 milk-glass mug ‘’Grand Turk’’ (1964-78)
Razor; Carbon, CX-Graphite (Ti), with an Original (0.68) webbed base plate. From Sean @ Carbon Razors, the razor is from 1 of 2 ‘’Small Batch’’ runs of approx 30 razors in total produced.
Blade; Gillette, Red & White (Aussie Spoiler)
Post-shave; Shulton, Old Spice Original, milk-glass bottle, 6.37oz/180mls (Bottle style 1996)
Cologne/EDP;
Moisturiser;
Attar (Perfume Oil);
Shave; Vintage Old Spice and a top class razor (IMHO). A fine 2 pass n touch up BBS.
I can/could see this being my daily set-up, keeping just 1 DE & 1 SE (selling the rest?) and my Iwasaki ‘’Kami” for Saturday’s shave, mmh will I.![]()
I have Semogue SOC Misturas 50/50 mix and AP Shave 70/30 I find them both great and I certainly prefer “mixed” over Synthetic straight Badger or Boar YMMV. With brushes in rotation the only issue I have with the Semogue is the knot and ferrule “spin” if not used for a week or two, no issue just annoys me, stops after next usage with knot swell. So go another @TroyTools with the Mistura or AP shave 70/30 both available from Andrew at API have a history of preferring synthetic knots (and as I require LOTS of lather, they're totally unbeatable with a hard milled soap), but I'm beginning to wonder if the combo of boar/badger might be better than the sum of its parts when it comes to natural fibres. Hot day working outside. Came in for a cold shower and then lathered up with the Extro and it was pure, citrus bliss. Shave left me feeling ten years younger!![]()
