Shave of the day

That's a grand idea. Imagine, all those old toothbrushes just waiting to be collected. I might even pay attention to those 'how to clean an old brush' threads.

Don't tell me Mark, you've already got the whole set of 1930 Pamolive Ivory Handled Coronation Specials complete with instructions and unopened lead tubes of toothpaste.

What SE did you get Jugs?

Glen was kind enough to send me a Gem Jr. I haven't tried it yet and it needs a good clean. Brasso? What would I use? It has a lot of green build up on it. Probably another thread needed for that, but I will snazz it up and have a go at it. Glen also sent me some blades which is awesome.

A toothbrush forum? If it's a sister site then why wouldn't you call it Paste and Brush? Or Fang and Lip?

Looks like you've got a bit of a brass/copper oxide thing happening. By coincidence just use an old toothbrush and some toothpaste to get most of it off and then just use it. I find they tend to get cleaner with use. If you're not satified with that use a gentle polishing compound such as Mothers (that's what it's called don't ask me why particularly given it's a favorite amongst outlaw biker gangs to polish up Harleys).

NO, but I'm on the hunt for my grandfather toothbrush and my great grandfathers dentures - wouldn't it be cool to find and restore them

Hope he's OK.

Fit and well thanks - aven't posted in SOTD cause mine are all the same. Still I intend to branch out into the dread 1912 and have discovered I ave a variety of soaps I havent tried yet so perhaps I will appear more often.

Shave of the yesterday lol
Cella, omega pure, and TI oak wing. Great shave however first straight shave in a month and managed to get bitten by the oak wing.

I just had the most awful shave in my life.

Now as a preface I put this down solely to my lack of technique.

I used the Gem for the first time ever, and I have never used any SE before.

Blade: GEM kindly supplied by GT.
Razor: GEM Junior kindly supplied by GT.
Soap: Razorock XXX
Brush: Semogue LE Boar

I stopped after the first pass and used my Progress with a new Treet blade dialled to 4.
I have six decent cuts on my face and neck. I was hesitant as to the angle to hold this on, and I think that is mostly the reason I cut myself.

I gotta say I am reluctant to go back to trying the GEM.

If anyone has some tips I'd happily listen to them.

That's no good Jug. It's without doubt the angle unless you've loaded the blade wrong. It should sit behind the little blade stops. Hold the head almost flat to your face and go slow.

Merkur 38C with Astra Stainless

Rubberset Nylon Brush

Proraso Soap (almost finished!)

Proraso Balm (almost finished!)

Yeah, yeah yeah - but I want to finish this soap off and this is the best brush for it....

I'd love to offer help but my one SE razor experience was the opposite of what you got.
Just in case: The blade edge must sit behind and in the notches. I reckon you've done that anyway as it would look stupidly scary and unstable if the blade were to be above the notches.

Perhaps there is something amiss with this razor? or blade?

In gt's PIF post, which razor in the pic's is the Gem junior?

As usual - cold tap only
palmolive/mennen stick as a face wash/pre-shave
proraso face lathering - used more cream and had loads of lather to spare

The "reverse gt method"
R41 with personna red 6,7 or 8th shave on it, hard to keep track. First pass only.
Gem featherweight (blade had 3 full shaves on it) 2nd, 3rdish + touching up.
Witch hazel splash

It works. Change is as good as a holiday etc.
The Gem didn't have too much work for the second pass. Its still the touch ups - difficult areas that take my time. The Gem is that bit easier than wielding the R41 for the difficult bits that need ATG.

I just woke up and the missus asked if the cats had gotten to my face during the night. I will post pics of the cuts in a new thread rather than this one. It's scary.

new thread with pictures here

You don't have to make excuses. It feels good coming out of the closet, doesn't it?

Hi, I'm Mark and I like nylon. There, said it now, feel better?

Back on topic

Tried Arko with a boar brush and it's the same story. Appears to be nice lather and then just turns to slop. Works OK.

In light of the recent Italian love fest I've gone completely Spanish where possible on this one.

Horsey brush
La Toja
Featherweight with a new GEM blade.

La Toja rocks. Going on a Streamline run with this blade.
