Yesterday, went with mwf and r41 with Pers red. 1st, 2nd passes are nice but the touching up is difficult.

Today tabac and r41 for a couple of passes and gem FW for the finish. much better.

edit - speick is available at mensbiz

Aaahhhh the inverted TM.

Anyhow.........

Coupla shaves. Might actually be a tripla shaves but who's counting.

La Toja and Tabac
Vulfix 2189 and Vulfix boar
7O'Clock (Shark on No2) and Featherweight (GEM on No1)

Good and great. First shave with a GEM blade, if you know what you're doing, is pretty much unbeatable in my book.

Anyhow........

You can also get Speick for a lot less at Connaughts. Mind you if you order two at Mensbiz I think you'll get free shipping which brings the price down considerably. After you've used it once, you'll want a couple of sticks.

In the pike position by the sounds of it, degree of difficulty 8.7.

Hmmm, must almost be time for the Olympics, you know, that month every four years when we become experts on a wide range of obscure sports and pretend we care :cheesy:

Well some lessons learned today.
No 1 don't leave shaving for 6 days.
No 2 If you don't follow No 1 then at least make sure you are not too tired to be careful.
I should have stopped when I was lathering my upper lip and shoved the brush full of lather into my right nostril. But no I had to carry on - Bullet Tip on shave 3. Careless stroke down right side of face - blood, careless stroke under chin - blood, careless stroke right side of fgace - blood - the good thing is these things are so sharp you dont actually feel anything - just this red liquid running down your face gives you a hint that you should have been a little more careful. Still finshed off with the Slim(carefully avoiding the dangling bits of flesh) and ended up with a reasonable shave.
On the plus side I have ordered some Speick and Tabac from Mensbiz so will have some new lather to turn pink.

You're way off topic here, Glen. The title of this thread is shave of the day, not shave of the week. Don't you like shaving? Actually a two day interval always gives me the best shave. Might have something to do with the angle the hairs come out of your skin or something. Logically should be the same for a six day shave. I guess you'll be forced to leave it for another six days before you try it again. You're in danger of being forced in to a six day cycle.

Not a hope in hell - Delay caused by a tooth abcess followed by a lovely cold. Now if both arms are shattered I will find a way of shaving every couple of days. (Cant afford the blood loss).

Didn't you buy a NEW or some open comb gillette?
That's why they were made, open combs are awesome if you haven't shaved for more than 2-3 days.
I love my gillette new for shaving off a long weekend beard growth. The new or the older new improved with an israeli blade works great. Will not shave as close an an SE, but gets rid of the beard pretty efficiently, then follow up with the SE the next day.

Thanks Pablo - I shall ferret through my stack and see what I do have.

last couple of shaves common: Tabac, R41, omega boar, WH for AS, warm water

yesterday Pers red
today new 70clock yellow

both shaves great, but today was better.
noobian (backflippable) discoveries:-
Been about 10 days since I finished the disposables test and just getting back in the stride of safeties.
The Tabac is better for me than mwf. As I'm using the tabac as a stick, I am a bit inconsistent on the amount that goes on, sometimes too much, sometimes not enough. Too much is better. Will experiment with the mwf again.

My SE journey has been continuing. It's a good system. I certainly like it much better than any similar weighted DE.

Still find ATG buffing much easier with a DE. J-hooks on the neck are a cinch though with the SE. Egads the TM has it's merits!

Been running with:
Smog 830 and Vie Long horse/Badger - really really liking this brush!
Palmolive Stick Gut 2,2
Gem SE - Pass #3 with HD + Derby when I have felt the urge
Dickenson's WH and assorted ASB's

I tend to put more MWF on than Tabac. Tabac is a bit softer too, so it's easy to over do it. Judging the right amount is the trick with face lathering because if you use too much you just end up with gobs of it dripping down the brush.

I just decided to give DE another try.
Had heaps of gillette green blades I never use, so went with that in a slim and MWF.
Crap blade, utterly useless, blunt as a butter knife.
Switched to a 1912 with a 8 shave old blade and had a decent shave.

Something wrong with some DE blades if a well used SE blade can give a better shave.
That SE blade is well and truly used though, never used to get more than 3-4 shaves out of them, I have been pushing them to 6, but 8 is well passed it. Still did a better job than a new gillette green though.
But the blade is done for so may as well try DE again, so will try another DE blade tomorrow. The green gillette goes in the bin after just doing 1/2 a WTG pass.

You might have gotten a dud blade. I have greens and whilst not top shelf they ate certainly not as bad as you described that to be.

I don't remember them that bad either, but i never liked them and found them pretty blunt, which is why I never used them again. I bought these blades in 2009, found them not good, like I found Derby not good.
I'm not against DE, I like israelis, personna reds, astra, kai, bic, gillette yellows and feather. Just never liked gillette greens.
And in the spirit of revisiting blades people didn't like before, I gave the greens another bash.
I can't say my prep or lather was bad when it was good enough for a 8 shave old blade either.

Can't say I am a fan of the Ruski 7OC Greens (Super Stainless) either. The Indian version (Permasharp Stainless) however are quite a bit better in my book, certainly seem sharper and definitely last longer. They rate above the Personna Reds in my book.

Didn't shave today, yesterday it was the 730HD Smoggie and Cella since I am now 1 shave away from finishing my Jermyn St tub. No idea what blade it was, think it was a Permasharp Super with at least a couple of shaves on it. Seriously great blade, I need to get more when my bonus hits.
