Sunday. Tried the new Crabtree and Evelyn West Indian Lime today. Used it with an straight edge. Kind of surprised at the amount of water that it took to make a usable lather. But... It did provide a nice, comfortable shave. Worth a try.

I think that all the C&E soaps are like that

Shaved with the gold dollar today

Hot towel
2 pass wtg/atg
Shave cream arko of course
Aftershave witchhazel/cussans afteshave

Result Perfect no nicks

Got home from work early on Friday so decided to have a shave before the kids got home. (I like to take my time)

I hadn't shaved for about 3 weeks, I was going to try and hold out till fathers day, but seemed like a good opportunity.

Had a 5 min shower, washed my face and put conditioner on my beard.

Put Proraso pre-shave cream on. Haven't tried it since last summer, but since it was a nice day, thought I'd give it a go.

Loaded up the Merker 39c with a Personna Red (I've run out of Feathers)
Used TOBS Shaving Shop Shaving Cream (from the Mensbiz sampler)
Brush was my broken Semogue 830.
3 Passes WTG, XTG and ATG.

Pretty good, no nicks or weepers, felt pretty smooth. There was still a few places where it wasn't bbs but I didn't want to push it.

Applied Musgo Real AS, waited for it to dry and then Nivea After shave balm.

It was the first time I had used the Nivea, made me feel a bit sticky for a while.

Overall pretty good.

My shave doesn't change much at the moment, I've found a bit of a groove that works very well for me. I shave every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Strange schedule, but I need to look more snappy on these days than the others right now.

Razor: Gillette 1952 SuperSpeed Blacktip
Blade: Gilleltte 7 o'clock Greens
Brush: Shavemac 177
Pre-shave face wash: Nivea Skin Energy Face Wash Q10
Cream: Trumper Limes cream
Post-shave balm: Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm

Cracked open a Personna Super Stainless 'Ultra Chrome' blade this morning into the Fatboy, and lathered up with Proraso Red.

Great shave, good sharp blade and very smooth, just does not have the glide as it is uncoated.

Three or four day growth, I can never remember. Thought I would try out the Voskhods Mark sent me but horror of horrors SWWISBF had tidied up and I didn't have time to look all over the house so put the last Indian Wilkinson in the Slim (and think I may have twisted the dial in the process - no glasses on so how could I tell). Anyway lathered up with some Proraso Red (thnak Mark1966) and started the ear to jawline stroke. But wait - what was that strange sensation? - I know it was the feeling of whiskers being dragged out by their roots! Ouchy Ouchy Ouch. Gave the other side a half swipe and gave up - grabbed the SE and removed the rest of the whiskers with consumate ease. I must now look at what the razor was set too cause either I had that wrong or this DE balde had met its match. Looking forward to challenging the travelling PIF blades in the same fashion. (Dont worry whoever is next on the list I will remove my three and flick it straight on).

Success is coming, gents. I've found my groove with the following:

Merkur HD 34C
Personna Super (the blue American one)
Proraso green
Generic badger brush
Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm

Mapping my beard growth properly has made a world of difference, as has taking a bit more time.

Still Thursday here. Had a late evening shave.
Decided earlier this evening that it was time to make an old Swedish razor, that I had been half hearted honing on and off for the last 6months, shave ready. After after about 2hrs with various stones and strops and pastes I gave it a try... While not the sharpest knife in the drawer it managed to give me a nice shave, may be a few more passes than usual, but no cuts or scrapes.
Razor: Johan Engstrom, Eskiestuna Sweden .
Soap: Nanny's Rasage Traditionnel
Brush: Boar
Alum
AS: Coachman Lustray
Balm: Nivea Protective.

Also: tried the MAAS polish on the blade. Instructions are not to leave it on very long before its wiped off. Did take some tarnish off, but no real shine.

Gee I hope you find those Voskhods - they are a great blade. Glad you are 'enjoying' the Proraso Red too!

shaving.ie Chrome Silvertip brush
Proraso Red
Gillette Super Speed Red Tip
Astra Superior Platinum
Nivea Post Shave Balm

I wasn't sure what to expect from the Red Tip. Before shaving, I already knew that I really liked the look and the weight of the razor. Having read a bit about it, I knew that the blade gap and extra weight make for an aggressive shave.

Well, the results are in and they are fantastic :) With my usual WTG XTG 2 pass I get a great shave, with no nicks, cuts or irritation. I'd like to think that at least part of that is because my technique is more than passable, but that could just be wishful thinking!

Don't be afraid of the red tip if you happen across one- great fun!

If you are getting good results with an aggressive razor then it is down to your technique.

It's taken me ages to get to grips with the R41 which is fairly aggressive but, like you discovered, technique is everything.

Good work.

The Proraso Red is nice too.

Had a good shave this morning so I thought I'd write about it! I had 3 days growth as we were away on the weekend.

Merkur HD 34C
Gillete 7'oclock blues
Whipped Dog black badger brush
Cella
TOBS Sandlewood cream

First time using the blades, they worked really well. At first I could feel some pull on my cheeks but that was soon gone.

I face lathered with Cella which was a first with the Whipped Dog brush, guess I didn't load enough because the last pass was was way to thin, so instead of heading back to the Cella I just scraped a tiny bit of TOBS on my cheek (which just happened to be on the bench) later looked good after that.

Ended up with one of my best shaves to date, no irritation on my lower neck which usually gets torn up ATG.

I think this is down to the razor though ever since winning the Merkur shaves have been a lot better.

Personna, EJ 89, Cheapy Omega, Nannys something or other soap (ice & limes?)

Ok shave. Not overly impressed with Nanny's soft soaps, gave only just enough lather for two passes.

Tried some L'Oreal AS Balm I found hiding at the back of the cupboard that I don't even remember buying. Think that must be from way before I got the DE bug. Feels greasy as anything to me, and I doubt it will be in the line frequently.

R41 and progress on 4
Voskhod blade in both
Smoggie le brush boar
Gft lime (thanks Mark)

Finished a great shave with Oriental as (again thanks Mark)

A good shave and love the lime gft.

Well, happy Spring Season to you.

Well, happy Spring Season to you.

If by Spring you mean 94 F days, then yes, we are here. A whole 5 degrees F warmer than the middle of winter (during the day anyway).
