Shave of the day

Not open for further replies.
Changed it up this morning, lol

Razor: Gillette 1952 SuperSpeed Blacktip
Blade: Gilleltte 7 o'clock Greens
Brush: Vulfix #406
Pre-shave face wash: Nivea Skin Energy Face Wash Q10
Cream: P160 Tipo Morbido
Post-shave balm: Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm

Face lathered after a shower, feels really nice. I've had a strange issue over the past week or two of shaves where I somehow managed to get a good 10 - 15 ingrown hairs all over, I've NFI what changed to cause that. Anyway this morning I had hardly any irritation, only one or two red spot points down around the adams apple... hopefully this is a sign I won't get the itchy irritant feeling on my non shaving day when the hair has grown enough to become stubble...

Have you used any other super speed variants? How does the black tip compare?

I haven't actually, I've been tempted to but haven't put a lot of time into it.

The blacktip feels pretty mild already, especially in comparison to the 34C. But I read that the bluetip is even milder again, might keep an eye out for one at a good price.

So this is starting to be my standard shave! However I did receive some blades in a PIF thanks to JugV2 so I will have to bust them out soon.

Anyway today's business

Merkur HD
Gillette 7o'clock Blue
Whipped Dog Black Badger
TOBS Sandlewood

Facelathered as always. Was a quick 2 pass job as I was running late.
Turned out good, still had some patches I could feel on the lower neck. But was a SAS which was the goal of the morning.

Splashed on some Imperial Lather AS (reminds me of my grandfather), and off I went on my merry way!

So you prefer the mild ones then?

I've used the flair tip, 40's style and the red tip, and the red tip is my favourite by far. I don't think it lives up to the ultra-agressive reputation some attribute to it though.

I'd prefer if I could just roll with whatever, lol. But my skin seems to respond better to a mild razor with a mid level blade. Mind you I've gone from the 34C to the blacktip and found it better, nirvana could still be elsewhere along the scale. Might pick up a well-loved flare, red and bluetip and see how they both go, and then find a better quality one amongst the three.

Yes, I've those exact 3 styles myself and concur that the Red Tip is the best of the bunch and not the agro shaver that some make it out to be. Is actually a real pleasure to use and works very well with almost any blades.

Merkur HD
Personna Red
Proraso Red
Culmak badger brush
Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm

Another good shave this morning, but nothing out of the ordinary. I started a new job on Monday, and as it turns out, I'm a 5 minute walk from the MensBiz shop in Richmond. I'm working 9-5 everyday this week, but once I move on to my 11:30 starts I'll check it out. My old man is keen for me to pick up some Proraso red for him, so it's a good excuse to go have a look-see. I'm also the proud new owner of a Gem SE. I've now got two shoddy looking razors to clean up on the weekend, so I'll make a thread and post up some pics. I took advantage of a deal on a cheapie ultrasonic cleaner so hopefully that arrives soon, anyone interested should have a look at the one going for $10 on Catch of the Day. Even if it sucks, it's cheap enough not to bother me. I'll let you guys know how it is when it arrives, I won't have much of a chance to post until the weekend. I'm a precious little darling, getting up at 6AM doesn't agree with me.

Had my first SE shave ever with a GEM Jr thanks to JugV2.

Gem Jr
Gem blade?
Proraso
TGN brush

Facelathered as typical.

I went super slow, no pressure at all.

WTG pass was fine. This thing felt so sharp. Sung like a bird too.
Was I little weird with the angle at first, but got the hang of it pretty quick.

XTG pass was also pretty un eventful. I did cop a bit of a cut, which isn't too unusual going over a little bump of some description.

ATG pass felt really good, I usually get some tugging and pulling on the lower neck.

Finished up, there was a few little nicks,to be expected I suppose.

Cleaned up, cold water splash & witch hazel.

Face felt a bit raw after, but deffinatley one of the closest shaves to date. Some irritation did appear on my lower neck.

I will have to spend some more time with the SE and see if it's a keeper for me.

Welcome to the world of "real shavers". Do a search for the TM to improve things even further.

Back to the red tip super speed for me. Have been getting great results using a Gillette blade (I forget which, but its good).

Semogue 830
Cella
Merkur 34C
Vokshod
Proraso Splash

With the inbound p160 I thought I better give myself an Italian baseline and returned to Cella after a lengthy break. Geez this stuff is easy to use!

I found a pack of Vokshods in my blade tray and decided to go with that as I hadn't used them before. Feels like a sharp blade but smoothness in shave makes Derby feel good. Sharpness similar to Astra SP so definitely not lacking in that regard. Doe this blade smooth out at all? Might be a candidate for the rocket HD as that has been a good razor for taming rough blades.

Proraso Splash...I have forgotten how much I love this stuff. For any of the new guys about that haven't tried it highly recommended now the weather is warming!

I'm loving this combo now:

Muhle R41 and NOS Bleue.

I'm having shaves that dreams are made of now I have the angle mastered for this quite aggressive razor!

Just goes to show persistence and technique pay off.

Today's shave:

Muhle R41
New NOS Bleue
West Indian Limes shaving cream (thanks Mark!)
Semogue LE Boar

I rarely do ATG but today, I did WTG and XTG. I had loaded the brush so well that I thought I may as well do a touch up along the jawline ATG.

This was just one of those shaves that felt amazing, everything aligned for that awesome result.

The West Indian Limes T&H is so slick and provides a great shave.

I'm on leave for a week just to chill with the wife, so I wasn't in a rush and took my time shaving and really concentrated on the angle and how the razor responded across the shape of my face.

When I first got this razor I was quite opposed to it, but like anything, time and elemental forces have changed my opinion.

The voskhods are really good blades IMO. Smooth yet sharp, they are my blade of choice in a Merkur 34c.

After a week out surveying fauna and flora here I had a fair bit of growth on me.

I couldnt remember how many shaves the current blade had on it, so threw that away and replaced it with a personna.

Added the usual cheap Omega boar, old school proraso green cream, and EJ89 to the mix, and had a slowish shave.

The extra care was worth the effort. Very nice shave. and the alum afterwards only showed up one small stingy bit.

Don't normally bother with the alum, but thought I would use it to see if my technique is getting somewhere.
