Shave of the day

Now that I think about it I wish I had missed the two little words 'on lather' from my previous posting.

No shave tonight, and heading out bush for a week of flora/fauna surveys either tomorrow night or Friday morning, so probably won't be shaving for a week.

Going to stay in Bakewell for a week hey.

But seriously that's no excuse for not shaving!

i'll be in here somewhere Google Maps, in or near the Limmen bight NP.

Oh, and I've packed the beanie and thermals in case it drops below 20C at night

It's peer pressure. All these flora and fauna dudes have beards. My son's one of them.

Only 30% of the male staff are beardies at our place (and 12.5% of the ladies), and I am neither (obviously) a beardie, or a flora/fauna dude or lady for that matter.

But yes, I agree, one of the beardies seems to rejoice in not even washing, let alone shaving, for the entire trip, and wonders why no one wants to get in the car with him on the way home.

I'm wondering about trying to sneak a fishing rod in my stuff, should be some nice barra down there. Just hope I don't sprain my ankle at the bottom of an escarpment like I did last year (2nd week in the job).

Aaah....sneaking in a fish on field trips. Very satisfying. Word of advice, don't leave the bait under the seat of the hire car. Takes a bit of explaining.

Back on topic.

Back on the SE band wagon.

MFW and then Speick sticks
Peerless with TGN Finest
Featherweight then the Bullet tip

Both great shaves. MFW is not the soap that Speick is. But then I've stated that ad nauseum.

People actually read this? I could have sworn I was writing to myself here. It's a bit senile having to tell yourself to get back on topic.

OK I'll do it for you = "Get back on topic PJ".

Your other self.

Merkur 38C with Personna Lab Blues
Simpson Milk Churn
EJ Sea Buckthorn Cream
Pens Opus 1870 A/S

Been using the 38C a lot lately. After I cleaned stuff up in case I sold it all I've not gotten around to getting one to use. To be really honest sometimes I go to change razor, look at them and get decision paralysis.

Anyway, the Lab Blues I don't think go as well with the 38C as some other razors. Not really happy with the result.

The EJ and the Opus I love. I was going to be a busy day today and I wanted to start it well - glad I did with these.

What did you think of scent of the cream?

2

The Sea Buckthorn? I really like it in a weird 'I don't know why but I do' kinda way. Make sense?

Speick stick
Vie Long horsey
Bullet tip-GEM blade on No 3

No problemmo. Will ditch this blade after the next shave and have a dip in DE land with the Long Handled Super.

Yeah it does make sense, I felt the same way.

I liked the scent but coldn't place it, yet it was "reassuring" I guess.

I wouldn't use it regularly but I think I got a tube for cheap from Connaught's ebay.

Yep, that is about it!

BOT

Coupla shaves

Vulfix boar
Triple soap (mix of MWF, Speick and Tabac stick leftovers)
Bullet tip (PTFE No 4) and Super adjustable
Alum block and Nivea Sensitive ASB

The Bullet tip was just the best, admittedly on a two day beard which always makes for a great shave, but the Super adjustable felt really clumsy and awkward in comparison. And I nicked myself completely out of nowhere. Put it back and plonked the blade (I think it's a Personna Super or something) in to the trusted 7O'Clock.

When it comes to TTOs the GEM MM series rules.

Gave the Flare tip another go - with a sharper blade this time, Gillette Yellow

LaToya

Decent result, more efficient, but using AS felt like pouring molten wax onto my face. How the hell did Gillette sell millions of these things?

Oh, that's right - no other choice. So nothing's changed much.

Well there was a choice, it's just not mentioned enough I think.

SE.

I think SE shavers were always happy. Poor DE gillette stooges jumped on the disposable SE like cartridges as soon as they were available though; while GEM, ever-ready and schick shavers already had that design.
DE isn't that great, and by the end, far far far too late, even gillette realised and went with single edge designs and then started to pile up the blade numbers on the razor while still keeping it a SE razor.

I've got a few DE gillettes, they aren't bad, and the gillette blades still around are good (you've sung the praises for the gillette yellow blade before), but I doubt I'd ever buy an expensive pot metal alloy modern DE razor when SE vintage razors are so cheap.
