Shave of the day

Gillette Fatboy (set to 5) with Gillette Platinum 'Maltese'
Semogue 1470
TOBS Sandalwood cream
TOBS Sandalwood aftershave gel

Nice shave. These heavier Gillettes are just fantastic. I could likely get away with a single pass with this sort of set up.

Something radically different for me:

Luxury Shaving Ivory & Chrome Silvertip (from shaving.ie)
Proraso Red
Aristocrat Junior with Shark Stainless Steel

Every aspect of this shave was new ground for me :omg:

Some thoughts:
  • The brush is amazing compared to my smog- much heavier and completely different water retention properties. I liked that it was much firmer than the smog (not sure if this is just because its brand new?)
  • I was expecting the Proraso Red to be different to my TOBS sandalwood, but it was VERY different. I don't dislike it, but I don't like it as much as I thought I would.
  • The Aristocrat is fairly similar to my Rocket HD, and the Shark is a great, cheap blade. I did have some minor 'tugging' while shaving but I think that was because the lather was too thin (need to get used to how much water the new brush holds)

Overall it was only an average shave, but a good learning experience.

Derby #2
34C
Col.Conk's Bay Rum Shave Soap
Vie long Horsey/Badger
Stella and MARCO ASB

Quickfire shave. The Conk's soaps are servicable at best, I remember why I haven't really used this soap much at all.

Not much changes at my house.

I've gone back to Astras and don't know why I stopped. They're awesome. [ah yes, used to rape my face going for the uber shave everyday cos they were so slick...] Yellows were nice, but I tended to push them too hard after a while.

Astras only bite if I take the piss, and there's no need when 1W and 1XTG is all I have to do. Trouble is, I'm still quite presentable next morning, so that can make the follow up shave harder sometimes. I've still got Reds for the ultimate comfy shave.

Been switching between Mr Taylor and ProRed.
Berkeley 46.

I usually flick between brushes daily, but whenever I dig this one out it stays out a while. friggin excellent smaller brush for $50. Unlike the Chub, it'll even do soap really well, as it's not too dense to be fiddly.

Proraso Red
Edwin Jagger DE89
Feather blade

Thought it was about time I tried the feather. Loaded it up in my very forgiving EJ and did my normal With/across the grain two pass shave.

Very happy with the results, and no nicks or cuts. These blades are very well named. Using a heavier razor like the DE89 is a good combo I think.

Feather is looking to be a blade I may just have to stock up on.

Enough of the Blueues and Sandalwood.

Proraso soap.
Voskhod in both R41 and Progress.
Boar brush

Heaven.

OK The bell has tolled for the 7 o'clock, next shave is between a Voskhod blade and a Gillette New (English) - thanks to Mark1966 or a Blueue in the trusty Slim decision decisions and of course should I try the Mitchells Wool Fat, stick to the Tabac or maybe even try out the blob of green stuff that is sitting in the bottom of a Ramikin that I think Drubbing sent me. I think I will have to allocate everything a number and set up a random number generator.

  • Slim on 7
  • 2-shave vintage Schick Plus Platinum (uncoated)
  • Vie-Long Horsey
  • Da Fat, face lathered.

Great shave. Really loving the Schicks, and although they give a very close and comfortable shave, I can use them every day without issue.

Trumper Limes skin food to finish.

Hell yes. :omg:

Monday afternoon. Recuperating from working the Sound for our local production of The Taming of the Shrew for the past week. It was part of the Shakespeare in the Park series that the groups been putting on.
After transporting sets all morning I felt I needed a nice shave.
Razor: old straight razor made in Germany for a Local Barber Supply House. Honed up nicely.
Brush: boar
Soap: Arko soap stick. These work well in the Suribachi that I use for a soap bowl.
AS: Clubman Vanilla
Alum
Balm: Arko Shaving Balm.
Feel much better now that it's over.

No shave today in bum mode BUT I got my c-mon special today & my jk henckels

R41
Merkur Progress on 4
Voskhod blade in each
Proraso soap
Somogue Boar

Not bad at all, I was able to be a bit more loose and carefree with the R41 this time. I think that reflects on both my technique improving with this razor and the blade being more forgiving.

A lovely shave, slight stubble along the jawline where I didn't give due diligence.

Love the menthol of Proraso.

Proraso Red
1940s style Super Speed
Rapira Stainless

The 40s style SS is a fantastic razor- glad I have a couple more of these on the way to fix up.

The Rapira is a great blade too- feels similar to the Astras but is even cheaper.

Two passes (WTG, XTG) was easily enough.

Ahh I'm so annoyed at myself I lent my SS 74 to someone to try out and never got it back.

If anyone has a spare I would love to buy one!

That would be a black handle one right? I don't have any of those sorry.
