Shave of the day

Searched there, Did a site search on google of here with the TM as the query....still nothing lol

I guess some things were meant to be unknown!

Just Google 'Thomas Method Shaving' and you will find a treasure trove like this and this and this.

All you need to know.

Glen is selling instructions personally signed by him I believe

I don't see a problem with Tom's method. When I use an Adjustable razor my 1st pass is usually on 2 and then move to 4. How is that different than using two non adjustable razors.
When I shave with a Open Razor I use an injectable to shave around my lips( have a Circular Beard). If it works and feels good, do it!

Ahhhh...thanks

Never heard of it before lol

Although when I was using the Gem I did think why not finish with the DE!

Wow ...we have fame amongst the ranks :p

Yesterday and today, I took a break from the "spoiler" review to use a bleue extra. Yesterday was fantastic, smooth closest shaving blade I have used. Today was almost as close, but not as easy. This is a typical reaction my face/beard has after too close a shave the previous day and the shorter stubble seems tougher. Back to spoiler tomorrow.

Re: the thomas method. I am a huge fan, using the variation of aggressive (whatever razor) for WTG, and then ss flare (mildest razor on hand) for the rest.

Smoggie 830
P.160 tipo morbido (thanks glenos! )
Rocket HD
Personna Blue
WH
L'Oreal ASB

The P.160 seems good for it's first outing. Pretty similar to Cella really. Will take some more use to pick any real differences.

Personna Blue...hmmm...seemed a little scratchy on it's second use. I recall them going off the boil quickly when I first used a couple of blades. Might get filed into the Astra SP category for me.

  • Pureman pre-production sample Closed Comb DE
  • Fresh NOS GBE
  • Proraso Red, bowl-lathered
  • Smoggie 730HD

Interesting shave. Not as close as I have been used to lately. Cheeks are still smooth at 5pm, but under the jawline leaves something to be desired.

Proraso green
Mens biz badger
Schick Ultra plus cart razor:wacko:

No wonder I hated shaving with that thing, how on earth did I put up with it for 15+ years? Decent enough shave, just an unpleasent experience.

In my defence for my choice of razor, I am travelling for work and didn't want the hassle of checked luggage. I did consider posting a blade to the hotel ahead of time but decided that was a bit wierd.

I actually tried a Feather this morning. I mentioned recently that I seem to respond better to the milder blades, but I found my last shave with a fresh 7o'clock green was actually feeling like it was tugging.

So changed brushes back to the silver tip, changed from Tipo Morbido over to my trusty Trumper Limes, and lathered up a fkn storm (literally, I totally forgot how easy this badger is to lather with versus boar, put a Feather blade in my '52 blacktip and with the lightest of light passes....

...it felt really good. Second pass XTG and I'm borderline BBS right now. My only issue I fear may be down on the bottom of my neck where my hair grows all herp-a-derp upwards and really close to the skin, but even that said I don't actually feel any irritation right now. Fingers crossed tomorrow and Saturday are just as awesome, I don't normally shave until Sunday morning now...

Had a very nice shave;
Razor: US Kinfolks Wedge. The only wedge that I've been really able to hone and strop to a shave worthy edge.
Soap: Mama Bears Dragon Blood. Nice soap for a open razor.
Brush: Turkish Horse
AS: Clubman Vanilla
Alum
Balm: Neiva Sensitive
Comfortable, clean shave.

Busted out the Gem Jr again this morning.

All in all not a bad shave...

Face lathered with Cella and Whipped Dog Black Badger.

Finished with Witch Hazel and Nivea balm.

Was still shaving over some irritate from earlier in the week so not 100% yet.... But I will get there!

For what it is worth I use a cart when travelling for business as well - same reason, only want carry-on.

I use my old Sensor Excel. It was what I used before DE and carts are not too expensive. I find the result has improved with proper prep and better technique but I do enjoy coming home!

Interesting changeup this morning. 3 Day growth & feeling itchy.

  • Pureman Closed Comb pre-MFG Sample
  • Fresh Feather
  • Proraso Red
  • Smoggie 730HD

Eagle-eyed members will spot the difference.

Result was good and no irritation, weepers or blood. That said it was not as close as I can get.

The Closed Comb will be heading out on a trip shortly - probably next week at some stage.

Isn't the feather the spotto? I didn't think RM used feathers much, if at all.

3rd shave on a vokshod and it smoothed out considerably. Close shaver for sure

The p.160 morbido. This is very good croap now I've used it a few times. Better than Cella I reckon but it's in the hairspliiting zone as Cella is also excellent.

I spotted it! Once every three days? You've just extended the life of your blade stash by yet another century.
Probably. Actually that would work out about correct.

Yeah, I hardly use them. The razor is very mild, mainly due to the weird balance of it. I decided to go a feather as I wanted to see how it performed. Must say it is better than in my DE86, and that is the closest performing razor I have to the Pureman Closed Comb for reasons that will become apparent later.

Yep, Cella is damn good, P.160 is just as damn good. All comes down to the scent, and the Cella I am using has been exposed to air for 6 months so has lost the Maraschino Cherry note and is a nice mild almond now.

I'm interested in trying the TFS/Mondial soaps as they are the same Tallow base but with something other than the standard Almond scent.

Ha! I was wondering if the P.160 seemed a smidge better because my Cella has been out exposed to the air for a long time. Not referring to the scent here though :P

I've been floored by the flu since last Saturday and I had 7 days growth to deal with yesterday, still sick but I had to shave because I had to go out. The only way I figured was to start with the r41, to get the forest cut down to stumps. This razor scares me now but it's really the only one for this job. I still have the spoiler in the ss for afterwards and I put a new gillette green in the r41. After some prep my beard felt very amazingly soft, I normally don't get that feeling as its usually one days spiky stubble. Not sure what I did with the mwf but I had enough lather for a full body shave. Hands a little shaky, the r41 actually worked smoothly. The left hand side of my face was difficult, had to brace my shaky hand. It was my best effort with this razor. Oh and the mwf felt lovely each time I slapped it on for another pass. The ss and spoiler were sensational, smooth as. I did 4 or 5 passes I think. I still had enough super thick lather on the omega to make me into santa claus, which is what I did.

It's the first time since I started wetshaving that I've had such a long time between shaves. It was great.

Just cut down four days growth with the following:

Merkur HD
Rapira
Blobby Foo
Trumpers Sandalwood
Barclay Crockers Dominican Bay Rum Lime Aftershave
Nivea Sensitive balm

Aside from one pre-existing patch that just won't go away, a pretty smooth and clean shave. Having a nice brush is making a huge difference, my lather is loads better. I'm powering through my soap/cream samples, it's almost time for an order to pick up a cream and some new blades to try.
